Duitse hoogspanningsmasten
Re: Duitse hoogspanningsmasten
On Pfungstadt_070924_09.jpg you can see an old 110 kV power line to the left. Is this a remnant of the now defunct power line to Hirschhorn/Neckar (which had similar barrel pylons)?
Re: Duitse hoogspanningsmasten
No, these belong to the line Pfungstadt - Heppenheim which generally uses fir tree pylons but a ew barrel pylons on the northern end.
The pylons of Erbach - Beerfelden - Hirschhorn look slightly different (thinner): https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File ... -01_01.jpg
Re: Duitse hoogspanningsmasten
Great to see the progress of these new lines! Although it is a pity that the classic C1 pylons will have to go. Hopefully Google Earth will soon provide new images so that we can also update our network map.
Yes, the "Northern Germany" design gets more common in other parts of Germany but the Oberbachern - Menzing 380kV line near München also has it for many years now.

Construction of a new 380 kV power line near Gramzow (Brandenburg), next to an existing 220 kV powerline.

Re: Duitse hoogspanningsmasten
Nice idea, but seems like not too optimal lightning protection here.

Tower 19 of Facility 609 (powerline Merklingen-Calmbach) south of Bad Liebenzell-Unterhaugstett. It was built in the 1960ies. Originally on its ground conductor a garland-like communication cable was attached. In 1993 it was together with the ground conductor replaced by a ground conductor with integrated communication cable.
The bright star-like object left of the pylon is the planet Venus.

The first two towers of the powerline from Stuttgart-Seewiesen substation to Stuttgart-Mühlhausen substation. Originally this line was a 220 kV-line with a garland-like communication cable on the ground conductor. Today it is a 110 kV-line with a ground conductor with integrated communication cable.

Re: Duitse hoogspanningsmasten
Before World War II Mellrichstadt and Bad Neustadt got their electric power mainly over a 30 kV-line, which started in Meiningen. After World War II this line was interrupted by the GDR and the section in the former GDR was mainly dismantled. However the section south of Meiningen was left and rerouted to the 110 kV-substation Grimmenthal. Therefore several new towers of typical "GDR-style" were built.
The following picture shows towers of this line built before World War II.

The transition from towers built before World War II to that built at the age of GDR of the former mentioned line. The tower on the left was built before World War II, the towers with a single crossbar on the right were built at the age of GDR and are used to routhe this line to Grimmenthal substation.
