Re: Duitse hoogspanningsmasten
Tower 258 of Facility 4508, an other towers of the technical monument. On the information board, it is claimed that the insulators of the towers of the technical monument are historic types. This is however not true! In fact the same insulator arrangement is installed as was used when replacement work on the line started. The conductors may be also not of the type installed in 1929, as they look too thin for a 220 kV-line and are grounded over the strainers of the new line. A cool idea would be to use these conductors as transmission antenna for VLF, LF or MF.

Re: Duitse hoogspanningsmasten
No matter how strange it is to keep a span as a museum part while the new operational line is redirected in a U-bend around it, I am impressed by the effort they put in it just to keep this row as a historic artefact. This would be completely impossible in the Netherlands.
I agree with the vision about the insulators. If they want to match the historic look as well as it goes, then the paint color, insulators, conductor type and diameter and the circuit identification signs should resemble 1929 as much as possible within the current safety legislations. (I.e. removing the lower six meters of the ladder to stop climbers who became aware that the line is not functional is defendable, however historically incorrect.)
With the replacement line in the vicinity, one can see with own eyes what happened in ninety years of powerline development. Being well-engineerd up until every plate and bolt, modern towers are very efficient and they try to touch the technical optimum between material usage, strength and practical application during construction and maintenance. New generation lattice towers, no matter if they are located in Belgium, the Netherlands or Germany, therefore all seem to have a somewhat more angry and serious statute. Professionals, very aware of what they are doing, busy with their task and not willing to be desturbed by people knocking on their shoulders for asking them stupid questions.
Personally I like that more than the clumsy long-legged older generation pylons, but not everyone does. It is however a nice contrast with the old museum line, visible for everyone.

South of Schweinfurt at Grafenrheinfeld, there was from 1981 to 2015 a nuclear power plant with a generation capacity of 1275 MW, which is described on https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kernkraft ... nrheinfeld . From the switchyard of the station powerlines run to Würgau, Raitersaich, Kupferzell, Höpfingen, Großkrotzenburg and Bergrheinfeld. The latter link is by far the shortest and is interestingly using two paralell-running lines each capable of carrying two 380 kV and two 220 kV-circuits from which however only the half is installed and workable. After the shutdown of the nuclear power plant a new substation was built at Bergrheinfeld, which should replace in future the old substation of Bergrheinfeld and which may get the terminal of Südlink. At present the new substation is only used for a synchronous compensator and fed by the powerline from Grafenrheinfeld and Großkrotzenburg, but now the 380 kV-link from Grafenrheinfeld to Bergrheinfeld is going to be rerouted to the new substation. The tower without conductors on the right will be used for the link to the new substation, while that on the left was used for the link to the old substation.

View to the new substation in Bergrheinfeld. The towers on the left belong to the two lines from the new Bergrheinfeld substation to Grafenrheinfeld Nuclear Power Plant, while the towers on the right belong to the new 110 kV-line from new Bergrheinfeld substation to Schweinfurt substation

Two lines for medium voltage between Bad Neustadt an der Saale and Wollbach. The right line, which possibly used (and may still use) a higher voltage than the left line, runs from Bad Neustadt an der Saale to Mellrichstadt and used until a few years wooden portal towers in this section. North of Wollbach such towers are still in use.
