On September 2nd, 2022 a short circuit in Olsterpad substation occured and the safety switch failed. As result the conductors of the line running to the substation got hot (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JKgGESux94 ) and even touched the ground, which resulted in fires and damages at the electric installation of a railway line.
How often do such things happened? I heard sometimes in traffic messages in German radio that motorways were closed as result of too low hanging cables, interestingly also on days when there were no reports of catastrophic weather events.

Re: Failure of substation equipment like in Olsterpad in September 2022
This was a very exceptional case, actually there is no precedent like this. The investigation is still going on so it is not known at this what has really happened.

An other exceptional failure occured on April 21st, 2023, when as one can read on https://www.sueddeutsche.de/wirtschaft/ ... -99-399375 a powerline wire fell on a motorway south of Hannover.
